HEALTH CARE CONSULTANT, YOGA TEACHER,
THE WORKING MIND FACILITATOR
For almost 30 years, I have worked in the health care sector, almost exclusively in acute care hospitals. In my various roles in corporate communications, patient experience, risk management, ethics and staff wellbeing, I have remained focused on the human experience of health care. Patients, clients, family members, caregivers, staff and providers all bring valued lived and living experience to the delivery of care and to the process of designing care models and processes. As a trained facilitator of the Mental Health Commission of Canada’s “The Working Mind™”, and an Occupational Stress injury educator, I support staff and providers in building and sustaining resiliency and mental wellbeing. I assist organizations in assessing and addressing psychological health and safety in the workplace using Just Culture principles and frameworks, as well as the Canadian National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety Framework. I utilize my Lean Green Belt training to bring a continuous improvement focus to every project I lead and assist others in learning how to use these CI tools to sustain and measure success. My goal is to help those working in health care and the non-profit sector bring the best version of themselves to their roles. Self-care is foundational to being able to achieve this and my own self-care journey brought me to back to my own yoga mat in 2023 when I obtained my yoga teacher certification.

Why the hummingbird? My father was fascinated with hummingbirds. He liked to putter and tinker and didn't sit still for long - unless there was a hummingbird to watch. Then, he was fully present, still and focused! In many cultures, hummingbirds are considered the spirits of those who have died - and they are thought to bring comfort and peace to those grieving. After my dad died in 2002, I have been blessed with seeing hummingbirds at key milestones in my life - honeymoon with my husband whom my father didn't get a chance to meet. Day before I did Ironman in Lake Placid. On much needed beach vacations. And, even in my own backyard. And every time I see one, I simply stop and am fully present. For me, this is also my time on the mat. Whether it's asana (physical) practice, meditation, mindfulness, Yoga Nidra - it's time for me to stop, breath and be fully present. My yoga training to become certified has truly been life changing and I'm very excited to share this with all of you! Come join me!

I can’t say enough good things about these classes and highly recommend them to anyone considering moving their body a bit more. Nancy provides options for beginners, seasoned yogis and everyone in between so there is something for everyone. The classes have a good mix of yin and yang styles so you leave feeling like you’ve had a workout but also relaxed and restored. I am so grateful we have this option in St. Thomas!"

"I have worked with Nancy who was able to set up systems and people to support and advocate for psychological safety. She has been a champion for Just Culture, making clear the benefits of the model and training all types of care providers in its application. She has successfully identified and rolled out programs and training to improve leaders skills in these two key areas."
